Finbar Blake was never a man that would do things in small steps if a giant leap presented itself. A fugitive in New York after his role in kidnapping Queen Victoria, a series of apparently unrelated events provide him with the opportunity of achieving his goal. He is going to build an army, invade Canada and trade it with Britain for an independent Ireland.
Travelling to the Dakota frontier to secure the services of an old friend, he rescues a runaway slave. Falling in love was not part of his plan but the distraction does not stop him recruiting a whole regiment of the US Cavalry to his cause. His next challenge is to persuade the charismatic leader of the Metis people to join him. If he can do that all he then needs is a small fortune and the way to get it is to blackmail the Hudson Bay Company to bankroll his plan.
With victory in his grasp, Finbar finally realises that there is a much greater evil to abolish and he has everything at his disposal to achieve it. His attention turns to Abraham Lincoln.
